noos in france recap 🇫🇷

we can now order pain au chocolat in fluent french!!!!

hi homies 👋

hope everyone’s having a good summer & spending lots of time outside with the homies!!! our month is france has officially wrapped up and i’m kind of sad to leave our little apartment. i think it’s just been really nice for us to have our own space again for a bit - have our favourite grocery store (there are only two grocery stores in town lol), our favourite patisserie and being able to take a gondola down to our local climbing gym (which is literally the best climbing gym i’ve ever been to in my life).

💌 life right now (the highlights & lowlights)

life lately has honestly felt like such a blur. i can’t believe it’s been a month since we first moved into our little attic apartment in saint gervais les bains. i’m not going to lie - our first day there was rocky as it was 30+ degrees celcius, humid, niall had left a bag on a bus to saint gervais that had his crypto wallet + my camera (we had to deal with a grumpy french bus driver to get it back) and we had a tiny apartment (think 10m2) with a slanted roof so niall wasn’t able to stand up in half of the apartment.

thankfully, we were able to settle in pretty quickly before heading off to do part of the TMB, where niall and i discovered that we are now soft-core hikers. of the six nights we were on the tmb route, we ended up staying in a hotel/airbnb for three of those nights lol and only camped for one night. the other two nights, we were in refuges in the mountains with three course meals   while niall and i felt very spoiled this entire trip, i think it made us reconsider how outdoorsy we really were hahahaha.

other than the tmb, we mostly stayed in saint gervais as niall had to work, and instead took weekend trips to annecy & geneva to visit friends in the area it felt quite surreal to meet up with homies we met in vancouver in these countries they’ve moved to - really makes the world seem small, to have connections/homies in random parts of the world.

💘 some gratitudes:

  • guess who’s going to see blackpink in london for £75!!!!!!!

  • the groceries in france have been insane (i’ve never had an onion so sweet!!)

  • visiting ex-EY homies in geneva & chilling at the montreux jazz festival with them 🎷

  • watching the ifsc speed climbing live in chamonix!! who knew kazakstan and indonesia had insane speed climbers?!!!!

  • being able to buy a fresh can of fanta at the top of a mountain in a refuge 🧃

  • getting to paraglide and get a stunning view of mont blanc 🪁

🚫 some anti-gratitudes:

  • french people climbing up my ass on auto belays (apparently there is no such thing as personal space on the wall here)

  • getting caught in a heavy rainstorm (it was worse than the one in bristol a month ago) on the train and missing our last gondola home

  • how expensive everything is in switzerland

👩🏻‍💼 corporate girlbossing without girlbossing too hard

i decided to re-add this section to the newsletter again since i’ve been applying to jobs again and trying to figure out what i want to do next in my career.

to give a small update, i’ve been interviewing at a couple of places and just finished final round at this series b start-up for a marketing role (yay!!!!) i think prior to getting these interviews and making it this far, i was very desperate for a job as i didn’t have a constant stream of income and every expense made was eating into my savings. this feeling of desperation made me apply for any job i could find, without much thought into what i wanted to do, and what i was actually interested in.

after the final round for this start-up, i started feeling anxious because truth be told, i’m kind of scared to commit to a job that i don’t even know if i’m interested in. i hear back from them tomorrow sooooooo stay tuned for the next newsletter to see what happens 🤪

🥤 sipping joos

📺️ KPOP DEMON HUNTERS (probably one of the best movies i’ve seen this year) -we’ve been playing their soundtrack on repeat at home to keep the honmoon alive

🍙 i’ve been playing a lot of pokemon go since moving to france since we have a pokemon gym right where our apartment is

i don’t really know what i’ve been consuming lately other than love island. i’ve made a commitment to limit the amount of brainrot in my day (i’ve deleted all the brainrot games from my phone!) and have started trying to not scroll through instagram right when i wake up (i was successful yesterday 😃)
